The commonly named Brazilian pennywort is a very versatile and easy to grow plant. The natural tendency of the plant is to float on the surface of the water. However, if enough light is provided, the plant can be anchored on wood and in between rocks to form a bright green patch or planted in the substrate and grown vertically.
Unlike other Hydrocortyle, H. leucocephala does not develop a creeping habit on the substrate level.
The plant will easily grow outside the aquarium if allowed to. It is also one of the easier plant to adapt to emersed conditions where it will flower.

This is not a demanding plant however it will easily show signs of nitrogen (small new growth, old leaves yellowing) and iron deficiency (new leaves turning yellow at the edge). It is also able to withstand more extreme temperature making it suitable for both low temperature and high temperature aquariums.
