Good branded Canister which is equipped with a pump of high pumping capacity, which has an excellent feature in that a high water flow rate can be maintained even when it is subjected to water resistance caused by the filter media. This feature allows the use of fine grains of biological media as a filter medium; however if a sufficient amount of water is not supplied due to the load applied to the water inlet of the pipe or inflow hose, symptoms such as idle running pump and air pockets may occur. When it is observed that air is at all times mixed with water even after the air trapped in the canister is released, it is advisable to check for the clogged inflow port or the bent hose.
All Canister Filter should be maintained by rinsing the filter media basically once every 2-3 months. Contamination can be removed from the filter media easily just by putting the filter media in a tray, filling the tray with tank water and then removing the filter media from the tray. This gentle rinsing is sufficient to clean the filter media since rinsing them too hard can result in loss of the beneficial bacteria on the media surface.
If the water flow from the filter is still too low even after rinsing the filter media, contamination inside the pump is suspected. In this case, open the pump front casing and clean the interior of the pump or check the impeller with a tool such as a brush following the instructions and illustrations on the user manual. All canister filter, in particular, is prone to a lower flow rate if dirt is accumulated in the impeller grooves. An appropriate flow rate may be restored just by cleaning the impeller.
